About Germany

Germany is a country in Central Europe. The fully officially name is Federal Republic of Germany. In the German language the county is called Deutschland and officially Bundesrepublik Deutschland.

The capital and largest city of Germany is Berlin. The official language is German. The ethic groups are 91% German, 3% Turkish and 6% minority groups. The government is federal parliament republic. Horst Köhler is the president and Angela Merkel (CDU) the chancellor of Germany.

The history of Germany starts in 962 with the Holy Roman Empire until 1806. The next period was Restoration and revolution from 1814 until 1871. The so called German Empire started in 1871 and ended in 1918. The Weimar Republic began in 1919 and was over in 1933. The period of the Third Reich was from 1933 until 1945. The following period of East and West Germany is called Division and reunification and was from 1945 until 1990. On October 3rd, 1990 Germany celebrated its reunification.
